The Gutter Bookshop is open for business....!

Welcome to The Gutter Bookshop, a new independent bookshop based in the Old City part of Dublin's popular Temple Bar area. We sell all kinds of books, including some great children's books, as well as gifts and stationery. We aim to provide you with something just a little bit different than you'll find in the big chain bookshops. Please pop in and say hello! (See the Map on Contacts page)

We're not able to process Online Orders just yet (we're working on it!) but if you would like us to get something for you please drop us a line at info@gutterbookshop.com or on (+353) 1 6799206. We can get most popular titles within 24 hours and there's no postage costs if you choose to pick up from the shop! We will also do our best to track down new or good secondhand copies of books that are out-of-print or hard to find.

'The Badness of Ballydog' by Garrett Carr
Venue: The Gutter Bookshop

“Something is coming ...something big. May knows it, but no one will listen to her. She is an outcast due to her odd ways and freakish ability with animals. Andrew knows it, but he has his position as gang leader to maintain. Ewan knows it, but what can he do? The sea creature is the biggest living thing on the face of the earth. And it won't stop until it has destroyed Ballydog.”  This is the first book of a trilogy from an exciting new Irish children’s writer.  This is a School Event and not open to the Public, however if you would like a signed copy of the book please let us know and we will arrange it.

Thursday 25th February 2010 – 6pm until 7.15pm

In the meantime, why not have a look around the site? I'm keeping a diary of the progress we're making (I know 'blog' is cool but I'm very old-fashioned). There's also some photos so you can see things as they do (or don't) happen.

We'll also be passing personal judgment in the book reviews section. Some books we like, some books we don't. And as an independent, we're quite happy to tell you which are really good books, and which aren't... (we'll keep the good ones in stock!)

It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to offer you much in the way of coffee after all - I'd originally planned to include a coffee-shop as part of the Gutter's offer but we're sandwiched (pun intended!) between a wonderful bakery and one of Dublin's most popular cafes - The Queen of Tarts so it looks like the books are going to get a bit more space and I'm going to have to brave the rain for my twice daily fix.

Please let me know what you're thinking and what you'd like to see in your ideal, small but perfectly formed, bookshop in contacts.

As for selling books online... we're not there yet! It'll come as soon as possible. In the meantime, if there's something you'd like us to get for you, just drop us a line and we'll do our best .
